“The supervisors took the time and effort to match students with projects of their interest and try to involve students with relevant experience with the project.
Team work: I was fortunate to have a wonderful team, one of my teammates had a few years of work experience at a law firm and a masters from Geneva Academy around 5 years ago. The other two of us were fresh out of law school. We learnt a lot from him in terms of the quality of work expected by a client. Such a person would have been significantly senior to us in a workspace and as a superior the quality of interaction would have been very different as opposed to what TradeLab gave us, to learn as equals. It was also rewarding for the beneficiary as they received meticulous research by experienced professionals, free. Some of the other classmates of mine included a judge, lawyers and economists who had returned to academics.
As far as the beneficiary was concerned, it was novel for some of us to deal with the expectations of someone who was really interested in the research we were producing. Our beneficiary came to Geneva and met with us. They challenged our hypothesis and debated our conclusions with us.
Tradelab also lead to a job opportunity for me as the lawyer mentoring our team appreciated our work and I was enlisted to assist her research and update material for her upcoming book on Caribbean Integration Law, something our project related to.”
